Nicola Culican grew up in the small town of Great Harwood, East Lancashire, England. Born in 1973, Nicola was raised in a working class family and is one of five sisters.
After leaving school, Nicola Studied at Blackburn College and went on to do her Degree in Fine Art Painting at Loughborough College of Art. She completed an M.A. in Fine Arts at Norwich School of Art and Design and more recently she attended the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Italy.
Nicola has spent the last 16 years traveling the world, looking for incredible, but often overlooked people to capture and celebrate through her painted works.
She has ventured as far afield as the mountains of the Himalayas and the backstreets of Kathmandu; visiting people from the hill tribes of Thailand through to the Berber people of Tunisia, from the plains of Botswana to the hilltop forts of Rajasthan. Nicola is an intrepid traveler who is inspired to portray the faces of the people she meets on her journeys.
