Nicola has worked and lived in many places around the world and is currently settled back in Greater Manchester. Her travels have taken her across Africa and Asia, where she has experienced many different cultures. She goes out of her way to meet the women of these lands; women who she refers to as the 'Invisible Women' - women who lead hard lives. Nicola has always been impressed by hardworking people; often painting portraits of farmers, mothers and market vendors, reflecting her own working roots. Her paintings aim to bring out the beauty of these women through the colour, lines and pattern that she sees in their faces. Each painting represents a chance encounter, a moment of meeting, a very personal encounter between the artist and her chosen muse.
Nicola presents works with a bold, graphical style. Utilizing a colourful, highly saturated palette, she works in an energetic, yet refined fashion with very controlled brushwork. Nicola’s more recent works have taken the form of large-scale paintings on canvas.
Nicola has previous exhibited and sold works in the UK, Africa and South East Asia.
